Australia’s oldest label  - going back to early 20th Century. It was set up by The Monarch Gramophone Company which went way back to Emile Berliner’s invention of the flat lateral cut disc. It was his dog (Nipper) and his friends’ gramophone that formed the logo. His Master’s Voice was the main label that formed EMI records division in England.
HMV like stable mate Columbia was one of the first in Australia to issue recordings (mostly classical) in the new 45 rpm EP format and mostly imported from the UK.
