Mushroom Records was set up by music producer – promoter – impresario Michael Gudinski in Melbourne in 1972 to record local artists. All issues were distributed by Festival Records, a major Sydney label. The label is still operating. Mushroom has since acquired the Festival catalogue and took over the Festival company after it folded due to bankruptcy and incorporated it into the Mushroom Music Group.
