Def Jam Records was created in 1984 by Rick Rubin in his dorm room at New York University. By 1992, despite recent multi-platinum selling releases from ONYX, LL Cool J., Public Enemy, and EPMD, Def Jam ran into severe financial troubles and was faced with folding.
