DEP International Records was started by UB40 at the end of 1980 following their debut album and three singles released with Dudley based Graduate. DEP was formed so that UB40 could keep total control over their record output and eventually release tracks by other artists. A worldwide distribution deal with Virgin Records was made towards the end of 1982 and DEP have enjoyed success ever since.
DEP International Studios was a recording studio situated in Digbeth, Birmingham. The studio was owned by UB40. Situated in Birmingham's Eastside area, the DEP buildings were demolished in March 2008 to allow for the improvement of the area.
