In
1969, looking to expand, Motown established branch offices in New York
City and Los Angeles. In 1971, with an eye to the future, Motown started
the Mowest label out of L.A. with signings of D.J. Tom Clay, Thelma Houston,
G.C. Cameron (former lead singer of the Spinners), The Four Seasons and
The Commodores. This short lived subsidiary was shut down in 1973 when
Motown had finally moved all of it's operations out to the West Coast.
The
UK version lasted until 1976.
